Good morning, my neighbours! The sequel to Eddie Murphy’s classic 1988 comedy Coming To America looks set to hit the big screens after it was confirmed that director Craig Brewer has come on board.

Deadline also reported that aside from Shrek star Murphy, who reprises his role as Prince Akeem from the fictional African nation of Zamunda, there are plans to bring back the original cast.

The movie, which followed the prince’s adventures in New York in search of a wife, also starred James Earl Jones as King Jaffe Joffer; Arsenio Hall as Semmi, the prince’s right-hand man; Shari Headley as the prince’s love interest; and John Amos as her father who owns the fastfood joint McDowell’s – which he clarifies, in one of the many memorable moments in the film, has the “golden arcs” compared to McDonald’s “golden arches”.

Production is said to start this year, and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris has signed on as executive producer of the sequel, which seems Akeem returning to the US after finding out he has a long-lost son who is also heir to the throne.
